Oh I could cry. I was fine with the fact that my sweater had crossed over from the Hebrides to Osh Kosh (B'Gosh), but what use are elephants on your front if they're modest?
Mine seem to be fading into the mists of their varigated background like so many gorillas in Brigadoon. (I know they would have shown up if I had done them in the brown but I was going for a ::look::) Perhaps I should make this not just a war time inspired sweater but a full blown Durrell sweater featuring as many endangered animals as I can (I'm waiting on my Durrell Foundation Membership to arrive in the mail). Would that make it a Jersey-Jersey? ahahahaha. no.
Please send any and all Fair Isle colour selection tips my way. I was so confident but am humbled at the process of choosing a really subtle palate-contrasting enough to allow patterns to pop.

ps here's one of the Emperor Tamarins I'm supporting in Jersey. Read about him here.

Morgan,
That sweater is beautiful! Top down too - my favourite kind of knitting. What do you want to change? The background or the elephant colour? What is opposite on the colour wheel? Would that work?
you're right brenda, that would work! I guess if I love two colours together (like the green and lavender) then I should use them in stripes beside eachother and choose a complimentary or neutral as the 2nd colour/pattern. I'll keep going with that formula in mind.
Are you putting your duct tape Judy in the Nightshift show at the University? It looks great.
Ah, but Morgan...Elephants can and do hide when they need to, and they can tiptoe through the jungle and be completely lost to those who would pursue them. Your elephants could be trying to hide away...
Just a thought. It's a beautiful sweater and I'd hate to see you rip it back.
ok, my bloglines totally skipped this post. That's so weird.
Brenda's got it - what about a brown background for the apple green elephants? To misquote Granny: "That's the shit." then perhaps use the stripes.
I always loved my Osh Kosh overalls...
Well written article.
